Richards and Spence’s new addition to James Street precinct

A Richards and Spence-designed apartment building proposed for 31 Doggett Street, Tenerife would embrace the design ethos of the nearby James Street Precinct, where the firm has designed a collection of buildings including The Calile Hotel.

The six-storey tower would house 22 “boutique” apartments, including four three-bedroom apartments, a rooftop recreation space and retail and hospitality tenancies on the ground floor. Situated midway between James Street and commercial road, it is intended to supports the existing local amenity and increased popularity of the area.

Richards and Spence notes in planning documents that the project would continue the firm’s commitment to combining large scale tenancies with a permeable ground plane dotted with smaller retail tenancies, providing benefits for both residents and the wider neighbourhood.

“The ground plane will provide easy access for the community to enjoy the variety of local experiences on offer,” the firm notes. “Anchored by a richly landscaped stair and courtyard addressing Doggett Street, the voluminous retail destination will be naturally lit with views to its leafy surrounds promoting its sub-tropical setting.”

The primary entrance to the building would be “co-located” with vehicle access from Doggett Street within a covered plaza space.

Apartments on the lower levels would be protected from the street by solid balustrades and integrated planters, while the higher apartments would be more open, facilitating longer views of the surrounding area. The communal rooftop space, open to residents, would extend across the entire rooftop.
