The Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) has announced Australians Hugo Chan RAIA and Vice Pirrello RAIA will assume senior leadership positions on its council.
According to a media communique, the appointments were made following the CAA’s 60th anniversary general assembly held in Auckland, New Zealand.
The biennial conference gathered representatives under the theme “Manaakitanga” – dissecting the ways in which architecture supports those it serves – from 22 national architectural organisations.
Former CAA youth representative Hugo Chan was elected senior vice president for 2026-2028 and is in line to assume presidency in 2028-2030. Vince Pirrello, who served as vice president for the Pacific was appointed honorary secretary, treasurer and trustee.
“I am both delighted and humbled by the opportunity to serve on CAA council as senior vice president alongside an incredible and diverse team. As the youngest architect to be elected to this position, I look forward collaborating with institutes, educators and practitioners alike in the years ahead, to support greater representation and support for architecture students and emerging practitioners across the Commonwealth,” Chan said on his new leadership position.
Pirrello declared, “I remain committed to supporting the association’s mission of advancing architecture in the public interest and strengthening connections across the Commonwealth.”
The Australians will join the incoming 2026-2028 CAA council under CAA president professor John Brown of Canada, alongside members from all five Commonwealth regions and committees “focused on emerging practitioners, architectural education and professional practice.”
