Project submissions are now being accepted for the 2026 Houses Awards, an annual program that recognises excellence across Australia’s residential design landscape, from compact apartments and secondary dwellings to expansive multigenerational homes.
This year’s program comprises 10 awards categories, including Australian House of the Year, New House under 200 square metres, New House over 200 square metres, House Alteration and Addition under 200 square metres, House Alteration and Addition over 200 square metres, Apartment or Unit, Sustainability, House in a Heritage Context, Emerging Architecture Practice, and the newly introduced Small Projects category.
The 2026 jury includes Andrew Burges of Andrew Burges Architects; Zuzana Kovar of Zuzana and Nicholas; Qianyi Lim of Sibling Architecture; Michael Roper of Architecture Architecture; and editor of Houses Alexa Kempton. Christine Phillips of RMIT University will join the jury as heritage advisor while Pippa Soccio of CSIRO will serve as sustainability advisor.
The 2025 Houses Awards program saw homes of exquisite resolve being honoured, including Blok Three Sisters by Blok Modular with Vokes and Peters, which won Australian House of the Year and the Apartment or Unit category award. Studio Bright’s Hedge and Arbour House won the New House over 200 square metres category while Carlton Cottage by Lovell Burton Architecture received the award for House Alteration and Addition under 200 square metres.
