Two residential towers accommodating approximately 1,100 dwellings have been approved for development along the Brisbane riverfront.
The approved two-stage development at 309 North Quay comprises two towers of 56 and 51 storeys, designed by Plus Studio, with a podium and public realm component designed by Blight Rayner Architecture. According to Plus Studio, the towers are oriented to capture views of the Brisbane River, Roma Street Parklands and Mt Coot-tha.
Plus Studio director Danny Juric said the prominent site required a design response that established a recognisable identity while remaining sensitive to its river setting and Brisbane’s subtropical climate.
Externally, the towers vary in colour, with one featuring warmer details and the other cooler finishes. The design aims to respond to climate by incorporating articulated facades, deep balconies and planting to help maximise light, shade and ventilation throughout the buildings.
Between the towers, a retail arcade links May Street to North Quay, featuring sheltered communal spaces that open to the public realm.
“Together, the towers introduce a new residential presence at a key riverfront site, contributing to the ongoing transformation of Brisbane as a denser, more connected and design-led city,” said Juric.
