In this talk, Abraham Thomas, the Daniel Brodsky curator of modern architecture, design, and decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, explores the house of influential English architect Sir John Soane – a residence that evolved from a private home to a museum. The Soane Museum, built and lived in by Soane two centuries ago, has been kept as it was at the time of his death in 1837. It displays his collection of antiquities, furniture, sculptures, architectural models, and paintings – including works by Hogarth, Turner and Canaletto – as well as over 30,000 architectural drawings. Held at Robin Boyd’s Walsh Street residence in South Yarra on 8 April, the talk is part of the 2026 Robin Boyd Foundation speaker series.
An artist-produced, mini-exhibition by Tasmanian designer and maker Ivett Dodd, centred on her newly published book Makers, which celebrates local Tasmanian makers and creators. Like the book, the exhibition – running from 3 April to 31 May – showcases work by local makers across various stages of the making process. Coinciding with the exhibition is The Heart of the Making Process, a panel discussion on 2 April, convened by Dr Helen Norrie from the University of Tasmania. Joining Norrie are Tasmanian ceramicists Ben Richardson and Jane Bamford, Sydney architectural photographer Martin Mischkulnig, and Ivett Dodd, each of whom will explore the creative process and what it takes to bring a vision to life.
Running until 18 April in Sydney, Nature Within: The Architecture of Toyo Ito is a solo exhibition focusing on the works of Toyo Ito, a Pritzker Prize-winning architect. Across a career spanning more than fifty years, Ito has become known for public, cultural and residential buildings that evoke a sense of being outdoors. Through architectural models, sketches and photography, the exhibition presents some of Ito’s most notable projects, from concept to completion.
