Argentina’s Matías Dell Olio took first place in the international street skateboarding competition at BRICS Skate Cup 2026, held in Ryazan, Russia from August 27 to 30. Thailand’s Jarudech Saejao finished second, while Russia’s Semyon Kutuzov completed the podium in third.
The second edition of the festival brought skateboarding, inline disciplines and scootering together under one programme, alongside talks and art presentations connected to street culture. Organizers said the event drew 987 athletes from 20 Russian regions and 27 countries, including the 10 BRICS member states.
Dell Olio arrived in Ryazan as one of the contest’s most experienced skateboarders. The Argentine skater was a finalist at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and won silver at the 2024 skateboarding world championships. In remarks released after the event, he described BRICS Skate Cup as “one of the best contests in the world,” adding that the competition marked an important moment for Russian skateboarding.
The street skate finals featured an eight-rider field that also included Brazilian skaters Marcelo Batista and Vinicius Costa, Madagascar’s Jean Chryst Rasolofonirina, Russia’s Savva Vostokov and Yegor Golubev. Kutuzov, who is from Sochi, was the highest-placed Russian rider.
Beyond the main skateboard competition, the programme included the Russian Open Championship in street scootering, won by Roman Malyushko of the Novosibirsk Region. In inline freestyle, Anna Kukushkina took the women’s 19+ speed slalom title as well as the women’s slides title. Timofey Shilov won the men’s 19+ speed slalom category, while Konstantin Khomenko came first in men’s slides. Junior classic slalom titles went to Margarita Komarovskaya and Roman Shchapov, both representing St. Petersburg.
Kukushkina said the event was an important test before international competition in Spain and the roller sports world championships in Paraguay, both scheduled for September.
The festival also made space for the culture around the competitions. Panel discussions addressed street sport internationally and the ways street culture intersects with urban life. Speakers included Marco Mazzi, director of the World Skate Games 2024, and StreetArtNews publisher Rom Levy.
Designer Denis Simachev presented a collaborative skateboard with the Skateboarding and Roller Sports Federation of Russia featuring a Ryazan Region landscape. Elsewhere, Yekaterinburg artist Egor Bakhtov showed art objects made from recycled skate decks, extending the event’s focus beyond ramps and results sheets.
BRICS Skate Cup 2026 was the first international event staged by Skate Russia after World Skate lifted its restrictions on Russian athletes and support staff earlier in August, allowing them to compete under the national flag and with the anthem in accordance with event protocol. Ryazan officials and Skate Russia have said the festival is expected to return to the city in 2027.
