Shepard Fairey’s “Ramones 50th” Print Releases September 3, 2026 at 10am PDT

Shepard Fairey will release Ramones 50th, a new screen print marking 50 years since the Ramones’ self-titled debut. The edition goes on sale Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 10am PDT through Obey Giant’s store.

The 24 x 18-inch print draws from Danny Fields’ photograph made for Rocket to Russia, the Ramones’ third album, released in late 1977. Fairey reworks the image in a palette that brings together visual cues from the band’s first three records: black and white for Ramones, blue for Leave Home, and black and pink for Rocket to Russia. The group appears in the uniform of its Lower Manhattan years—leather jackets, jeans and an unvarnished, confrontational stance.

In the release statement, Fairey situates the image within what he calls the band’s “extraordinary two-year run,” encompassing Ramones, Leave Home and Rocket to Russia, released across 1976 and 1977. He notes that these are the only three Ramones albums to feature drummer Tommy Ramone, who also contributed to production.

Fairey first encountered the band in 1985 and recalls seeing the Ramones in 1988 and 1989. Writing about a 1988 show at the Living Room in Providence, Rhode Island, where Jane’s Addiction opened, he describes an overcrowded room and the force of the audience at the front of the stage. “It may seem weird to say you are having the time of your life fighting for your life,” he writes, “but that’s the only way I can describe that show later in life.” He also recalls the group playing continuously for roughly two hours, with Johnny Ramone staying in his leather jacket amid the heat and Joey Ramone fixed at the microphone.

Ramones 50th is a screen print on 80 lb cream Speckletone paper. Each print is signed by Shepard Fairey and issued in a numbered edition of 600, with a Digital Certificate of Authenticity provided by Verisart. It is priced at $75, with purchases limited to one per customer or household.

International customers are responsible for import fees due on delivery, except for UK orders under $160, according to Obey Giant.
