      “Explosion” and “Pressure” by Julien Boudet at Art Dubai, UAE

      San Projects, a highly regarded production company, has partnered with Stems Gallery to produce an awe-inspiring art installation in Dubai. Featuring the works of renowned French multidisciplinary artist, Julien Boudet, the installation includes two thought-provoking sculptures, “Explosion, 2023” and “Pressure, 2023”, which challenge visitors’ perceptions of reality.Inspired by Boudet’s passion for car culture in Dubai, the two sculptures pay tribute to the iconic Mercedes G Wagon, the city’s most popular car. Drawing on Boudet’s passion for basketball and the iconic AMG logo, the sculptures explore the concepts of accumulation and compression, creating a giant counterfeit AMG basketball and playing with logos and bootleg culture, which is prevalent in Dubai.The sculptures were produced locally in Dubai, adding an authentic touch to the artwork.       Coverage: “Master and Commander” Solo Exhibition by Tania Marmolejo at Volery Gallery, Dubai, UAE

      Last December 8th, Volery Gallery opened Master and Commander, a solo exhibition by Swedish-Dominican artist Tania Marmolejo.Tania Marmolejo works primarily with painting, portraying her experience of womanhood through figures of women with ambiguous facial expressions. Flat surfaces, soft strokes, and vivid oil colours, are the main characteristics of her work. With a background in graphic design and illustration as well as academic training in Fine Arts. Her work is inspired by German and Flemish art of the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and the Figurative and Abstract German Expressionism. Influences of Scandinavian art are also apparent in her choice of colours and minimalist subject matter.For Master and Commander fourteen paintings are on show, dedicated to the bravery of Iranian women in their fight to break the old constraints that have trapped them in a particular place and cultural time. The works subtly investigates and portrays references that have been used historically to demonstrate women’s virtue or the lack of it.These symbols include ripe fruits, flowing hair, bare skin, and scenes of animal interactions.       “Miam Miam” Group Exhibition at Volery Gallery in Dubai, UAE

      Volery Gallery and Galerie Julien Cadet proudly presents its latest exhibition on the occasion of the Dubai Art Fair, showcasing a collection of three artists: Jake Clark, Monica Kim Garza and Humberto Poblete- Bustamante.The French expression “Miam-Miam”, roughly translates to “Yummy Yummy”, which accurately depicts the satisfactory and enticing visual appeal of the presented artists’ generous touch. The recurrent presence of heavy-handed saturation, and variety of shapes, subjects and textures, work in harmony to convey a light hearted, unapologetic apprehension of life, for us to bite into.Andy Warhol and Keith Haring being major influences of his, Jake Clark, much like the late artists, draws his inspiration from the quotidian and the variety offered by tri-dimensional paint substrates. Going from local food shops, to street signs and horticulture, the Australian artist immortalizes well- known imagery which he then transfers onto ceramics, urns and vases. Clark’s craftmanship goes from the surface to the core of his work, crystalizing modern instances of our society, and resulting in refined, recognizable final productions.Monica Kim Garza, offers a portrayal of coloured, female subjects, free of the patriarchal grip and the Occidental gaze. In a hymn of hedonism and instances of pleasure, the subversion of the classical nude is coupled with a more indigenous approach. The palette, the voluptuous depiction of the bodies and the various scenes all collide as means of communication for deeply human, engaged messages relating to gender roles, sex-positivity and individual expression.Moving away from the figurative, Humberto Poblete-Bustamante, freely navigates through the realm of the abstract, considering painting as a matter and insufflating motion, dynamism and spontaneity in his work. Honest and raw, the works of the Chilean painter, harness and immortalize his surges of inspiration, which take on the shape of rapid strokes, clashing, colours and abundant layering of oil and acrylic paint. Gesture, authenticity and texture are the key words of Bustamante’s art, which honour the creation process.The exhibition will run from March 12, 2021 to April 7, 2022. He is best known for his large-scale photorealistic murals, with various murals internationally.A new mural at Al Wasl Road is a realistic representation of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum the son of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai. The mural represents Sheikh Hamdan as he glances at Dubai’s horizon, capturing the vision of his father in his eyes and the future ahead of him and his country.Lonac is a highly talented artist whose amazing works can be found throughout his native country and beyond. His signature huge, eye-catching pieces – created with spray cans and brushes – are usually influenced by skateboard culture, comics, graffiti, movies, music, but also current social issues.       Last February 10th, Volery Gallery opened Childhood Memories, a group exhibition is curated by Jean Claude Geraud, the founder of City of Talents, Toulouse, a contemporary and urban art agency.Childhood Memories brings together the works of twelve contemporary artists from different parts of the world. The artworks represented are emanated from our memories as children, loaded with vivid colours, wistful eyes and universes made of our dreams and childhood cartoons.The exhibition takes the visitors through a trip of reminisces out of the current challenging times and into a hope-filled universe. On show are various styles of paintings ranging from playfully scribbled paintings, flat surfaces as well as Manga and Anime characters taking over the alternate world.The exhibition introduces pronounced international artists with their unique representation of childhood memories to the region. The lineup will include Jonathan Hadipranata; Adam Handler; Andrew Hem; Kai; Jade Kim; Diren Lee; Millo; Keigo Nakamura; Jun Oson; Ryol; Byun Se-hee and Wei Xing.
