Designs by Genton have been unveiled for two train stations in Melbourne, to be delivered as part of the state government’s ongoing level crossing removal project.
Along with the delivery of new stations at Pakenham and East Pakenham, the project will see level crossings removed at McGregor Road, Main Street and Racecourse Road in Pakenham, and create “six MCGs” of new open space.
The new Pakenham Station will “rejuvenate the busy pedestrian and shopping precinct, and create safer and more direct links between public transport, the town centre and additional parking,” the government said in a statement.
A new station forecourt, bus interchange and two dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones will provide easier and safer access to the station. Lifts and stairs will take passengers to two platforms for regional and metropolitan trains, with upgraded modern facilities and a climate-controlled waiting room at street level.
Genton’s designs for the two stations reflect the character of the suburb.
“Pakenham is a great place to live and work, it’s also a vital connector to both Melbourne and regional Victoria,” said local MP Jordan Crugnale. “These new state-of-the art stations will be centrepieces our community can be proud of.”
The designs are on public exhibition here.
