Construction at the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) Woden Campus is starting to ramp up following an approved development application for the main building.
The educational facility, designed by Gray Puksand, will feature a suite of new amenities including a new ‘light-rail-ready’ public transport interchange as well as more open, green spaces for residents, students, commuters and businesses.
The new campus will incorporate specialist learning environments for hairdressing and beauty therapy, creative design, media and music, cyber training and digital learning spaces, a training restaurant and bar with simulated kitchens, collaborative learning spaces, a multipurpose hall for events, incubator hubs and smart classrooms fitted out with cloud technology. It is expected 6,500 students will use the campus each year.

The design of the precinct has been shaped by feedback gathered from diverse community consultations, with commentary highlighting the need to incorporate weather protection design elements, offer green spaces and improve safety through improved passive surveillance. The project aims to meet these requests by providing family-friendly areas with canopy cover, covered walkways, disability access, secure bike storage, pick-up and drop-off points, transport interchange and a slow-speed local access street connecting Bowes and Bradley Street.
The design also responds to the community’s desire for a sustainable precinct by delivering an all-electric campus with a six-star Green Star rating.
The main structure is expected to be completed in 2025.
