Australian practice to lead workshop at World Architects Congress

Naarm/Melbourne-based architectural practice Simulaa has been invited to contribute to the annual World Congress of Architects in Barcelona next year. The only Australian practice to participate in the 2026 edition of the congress, Simulaa will be presenting in the first plenary session as well as leading an international workshop for emerging practitioners.

Tying into the congress theme, Becoming, and its focus on the investigation of time as a design tool, Simulaa’s workshop will explore the interconnected nature of architecture and the natural world through acts of recording – using time-based video mapping, environmental sensing and biodiversity mapping – as well as through acts of making small interventions to support human and non-human life across Barcelona.

The workshop is one of a series of twelve by emerging architectural practices from around the globe and forms a major new component of the congress, inviting students and emerging practitioners to engage directly with global discourse and work alongside invited practices.

The workshop program runs from 19–27 June 2026, a week before the main event, and is hosted across key congress venues, including the former power station Les Tres Xemeneies (The Three Chimneys) in Sant Adrià de Besòs.

Students wanting to be involved in the workshop program can make an expression of interest online until 10 January 2026.
