A beloved historical treasure, the Lippincott House, built in 1917, has hit the market with a listing price ranging between $2.1 million and $2.3 million.
The two-storey home is part of the Glenard Estate in Eaglemont, designed by architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin. The home’s initial designs were completed by architect Roy Lippincott, who was not only the home owner, but the Griffins’ head draftsman and brother-in-law – married to Walter Griffin’s sister, Genevieve.
The Lippincott House, at 21 Glenard Drive, was established on one of 120 lots in the heritage-laden estate. It was situated next door to Walter and Marion’s own home, Pholiota.
The 848 square metre home integrates natural timber features such as ceiling beams, window frames and polished floorboards with exposed brick walls. An angular fireplace matches the splayed gable and wide eaves on the facade of the home. Windows are dotted around the house in abundance and provide occupants with a view of the surrounding garden.
The house shares a resemblance to a number of speculative houses designed by Griffin in Beverly, Chicago, between 1909 and 1913.
The Lippincott family lived in the home until 1922 when they relocated to New Zealand after winning a design competition for the Auckland University arts building.
Lippincott House featured in the 2023 Open House Melbourne event, when the public was invited to take part in a private home tour of the residence.
The listing is advertised on realestate.com.au.
