Competition to design Barangaroo waterfront pavilion

The NSW government has launched a design competition for a new pier pavilion at Watermans Cove in Barangaroo South.

The proposed pier pavilion will be an extension of Wulugul Walk, which, when complete in 2024, will follow the Sydney harbour foreshore from Walsh Bay to Darling Harbour. Watermans Cove will be situated adjacent to the under-construction Crown casino hotel designed by Wilkinson Eyre.

The pavilion will be a shade-and-canopy structure intended to provide a waterfront area for public gathering, relaxation and engagement.

Organized by Infrastructure NSW, the competition will be in two stages.

The first stage will be an anonymous ideas competition open to all registered Australian architects, from which five entrants will be selected by a jury to develop their designs for stage two. Shortlisted finalists will be paid $50,000. The winner of the competition will have the opportunity to follow the project through to construction.

Expressions of interest can be made via the Barangaroo website. Stage one begins on 23 June and entries are due by 11 am, 6 August 2020.
