The organizers of the World Architecture Festival have announced the first round of winners of the 2021 WAF Awards. Australian projects have taken out three of the first 19 categories announced.
They are Olderfleet by Grimshaw, Ken Rosewall Arena Redevelopment by Cox Architecture, and Atlassian Headquarters by Shop Architects and BVN Architecture, with engineers Eckersley O’Callaghan.
Another three projects were highly commended by the juries.
With the in-person festival cancelled for the second year due to the pandemic, architects presented their shortlisted projects virtually to more than 100 international jurors.
The category winners will now compete with each other for the titles of World Building of the Year, Future Project of the Year, Interior of the Year and Landscape of the Year.
“This has been an excellent year for entries across the board and we look forward with huge enthusiasm to decisions about the best in show winners on 3 December,” said WAF program director Paul Finch.

Kambala Sport, Wellbeing and Senior learning precinct – Allen Jack and Cottier Architects
