The first concept images of the new Sydney Children’s Hospital and Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Randwick have been released.
Billard Leece Partnership prepared the concept plans for the $608 million hospital, which will be built in the University of New South Wales’ Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct and will include medical research and education facilities.
State and federal governments announced the funding for the project in March 2019, with the NSW government contributing $428 million, the federal Government $100 million, UNSW $30 million, and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation and Children’s Cancer Institute each contributing $25 million.
The Member for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton said physically co-locating clinicians, researchers and educators would accelerate learning discoveries by engaging clinical innovation with bedside care.
“The new Sydney Children’s Hospital will provide world-class healthcare services including an expanded children’s emergency department and emergency short-stay unit, a new children’s intensive care unit, new inpatient units for medical surgical specialties, a new pharmacy and retail facilities,” she said.
The cancer centre will include wet and dry laboratory spaces, education, training and research spaces, a new day oncology unit, new oncology inpatient units, and patient and family focused retreat areas.
The hospital project is part of the university’s wider Randwick Campus Redevelopment, which will include a $778 million building for Prince of Wales Hospital and a “Health Translation Hub.”
