Designs revealed for Gold Coast train station

Detailed designs of Hope Island train station on the Gold Coast have been released for public comment.

The station is one of three planned on the Gold Coast as part of the Cross River Rail project, all designed by architecture firm GHD Woodhead with its parent engineering company, GHD.

The Hope Island station was previously known as the Helensvale North station, with the name change coming out of earlier community consultation.

Queensland transport minister Mark Bailey said the design had also been refined based on previous feedback.

“It includes 179 car parks with provisions for more parking, a 40-bike enclosure and a range of improved accessibility features, such as two through-lifts on both platforms, six accessible car parks and tactile indicators,” he said.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Cross River Rail would make it quicker and easier for Gold Coasters to commute to Brisbane during peak times.

“We’ve heard from locals, refined the designs and now we want more feedback from the community about what they want to see at Hope Island station,” she said. The other two stations are proposed for Pimpama and Merrimac.

Community consultation on Hope Island station’s design closes on 18 September.
