Open House Melbourne announced that Tania Davidge has been appointed its new executive director.
Davidge is a design advocate, architect, writer, and cofounder of the architectural research practice OoPLA, which delivered Open House Melbourne’s keynote program for 2019, Urban Tactility. In addition, she creates the organisation’s “Making Home” series, which shines a light on the issues that drive homelessness and influence the provision of social and affordable housing in Victoria.
“As an architect with a strong interest in public engagement and participation, I’m excited to steer Open House Melbourne into its 16th year and to build on the legacy established by previous executive directors,” Davidge said. “Open House Melbourne is one of the rare forums dedicated to building public conversation focused on the issues that impact the design of our cities, towns and public places.
“I look forward to opening up Victoria’s unique spaces and spaces, presenting built environment issues important to Victorians and showcasing the metropolitan and regional projects that are shaping the future of our state.”
Open House Melbourne returns on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 July in 2023 with a program organized around the theme “Collective City,” addressing the question, “How will we reinvent, re-purpose, and adapt our city to live better together?”
Open House Melbourne leads critical public debate on the value of place and design, empowering Victorians to understand the role they play in shaping our built and natural environments.
In addition to the Open House weekend, the 2023 program includes the Modern Melbourne series of filmed interviews with Melbourne’s seminal architects, which will premiere on Thursday 27 July; “This is Public” opening speaker series, launching Thursday 28 July; and the Heritage Council of Victoria’s annual Heritage Address on Thursday 3 August. The full 2023 program will be released on 28 June.
