Plans lodged for Sydney recreation centre in a warehouse

Collins and Turner has finalized designs for the transformation of an industrial warehouse in Alexandria into a recreation centre with four indoor multipurpose courts.

The updated design for the Huntley Street centre includes a sweeping canopy facade that will provide shade in front of the building.

The project will also deliver a gymnasium and a new area of public open space within the front setback to Huntley Street that features play and fitness zones, including outdoor courts for practice sessions. The landscape design is by Gallagher Studio.

There will also be seating for spectators, reception and administration areas, a kiosk and change rooms.

The multipurpose courts will cater to basketball, netball, futsal, volleyball, gymnastics and badminton.

The City of Sydney purchased the site in 2018 and engaged Collins and Turner to work on the design. Concept designs were released in 2020.

A development application for the project is on public exhibition until 15 February. If approved, construction is expected to get under way in 2022.
