Chairity Project to relaunch during Melbourne Design Week 2022

Cult’s Chairity Project will return to Melbourne Design Week, with 18 creatives from multiple design disciplines reimagining Hay’s Result chair for two nationwide exhibits and one “chair”-ity auction.

Cult founder and director Richard Munao sees the project as a positive step forward from a challenging two years.

“[W]e can think of no better initiative to reinstate after a five-year hiatus than one that is centred around collaboration, creativity and a charitable cause,” Munao says.

The Chairity Project auction will take place online from 17 March to 3 April, with registration now available. Designs will also be exhibited at Cult Design Melbourne from 17–20 March and displayed at Sydney’s Hay store from 28 March–3 April.

Proceeds will be equally shared between five charities, which Cult chose in response to the circumstances of recent years:

This year’s designers are: Adam Goodrum, Alexandra Donohoe Church, Anna Carin, Arnsdorf, Claire Delmar, Craig Andrade, Design by Toko, Evi-O, Heather Nette King, Kelvin Ho, Pattern Studio, Rettallack Thompson, Tom Fereday, Shelley Simpson, Use Daily, William Smart, Yasmine Ghoniem and Zachary Hanna.

The project’s brief – “How can we collectively work towards a better, healthier future?” – responds to this year’s theme for Melbourne Design Week, “Design the world you want.”
