Cottee Parker has designed a 16-storey tower for 63–67 McLachlan Street in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane with “an abundance of tree and plant life” grafted onto it.
Dubbed The Olive Branch, the tower includes 12 levels of office space, a wellness centre, and a rooftop restaurant.
A terracotta breeze block screens the wellness space on the lower levels from the street below and the western sun. The tower above responds to the escarpments of Brisbane tuff rock seen around the site, with a series of recesses moving in and out along the street frontage. “The built form is then overlayed with a veil of subtropical landscape,” Cottee Parker explains in planning documents.
“Ground level planting reaches up and overlaps the cascading tower landscape.” The landscape design is by Martin Brothers.
The developer is aiming to deliver a net zero carbon emissions building, with the total amount of energy used by the building to be offset by renewable energy creation both on and off site.
A development application for the project is on public exhibition
