Bicycle bridge mooted for Brisbane

The Queensland government is considering the addition of a new bicycle bridge connection in Brisbane.

The proposed “velobridge” would connect the existing Kangaroo Point Bikeway to the government’s under-construction V1 cycleway.

A public consultation period will precede the creation of a business case and the formal design process. The government has committed $1.6 million to the bridge so far.

The 17-kilometre V1 project will connect South Brisbane with Eight Mile Plains.

The bridge is proposed as part of an ongoing program of works to upgrade the bikeway, by improving safety and removing road crossings.
