The resurrected AA Prize for Unbuilt Work is returning for the second year in a row after its decade-long hiatus.
Entries are now open for the 2022 edition of the prize, which seeks to promote debate and generate ideas about architecture by rewarding compelling work in its conceptual stages.
Winning last year’s prize – the first time it was awarded since 2012 – was a timely proposal from Bates Smart that considered the imbalance between private car parks and public space.
This year’s jury will again be looking for “conceptually rigorous, inventive responses to contemporary architectural issues.”
On the 2020 jury are Julian Anderson, director at Bates Smart (last year’s winner); Justin Hill, director, Kerry Hill Architects; Lee Hillam, co-director, Dunn and Hillam Architects; Mel Dodd, head of the department of architecture, MADA, Monash University; and Katelin Butler, editorial director of Architecture Media.
The AA Prize for Unbuilt Work is presented by Architecture Australia magazine and organized by Architecture Media (publisher of ArchitectureAu).
Entries close on 27 August 2021. At that date, projects must be unbuilt. The winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000.
