Candalepas designs second Hyde Park tower

A concept by Candalepas Associates has been named the winner of a design excellence competition for a 55-storey mixed-use tower on the corner of Liverpool and Castlereagh Streets in central Sydney.

This announcement follows the practice’s appointment, alongside Glenn Murcutt, for another multi-use tower at 271 Elizabeth Street making it the practice’s second project within the southern Hyde Park precinct.

The design for the $230 million project takes advantage of the harbour views, with four levels of office space, a ground floor retail complex, entry foyers and a courtyard garden.

The western corner of the nearby park is seen as a “moment of quiet glow,” Candalepas said. He added that ample courtyard spaces are important to the “personality” of the building, offering areas for respite and reflection.

Communal spaces include courtyards and gardens that provide a “peaceful oasis”.

“It is a building with dramatic foyers and an oasis garden for the residents. These two facilities link to provide a sense of wellness and nature in the centre of the city,” he said.

Developer Deicorp will begin working with the practice to produce a development application to the City of Sydney, which they expect to submit by July.
