Entries open for awards celebrating circular practices

Entries have opened for the 2022 Circle Awards, which recognizes businesses, organizations, projects and people leaving positive impact on the environment and society.

Opened on 20 July, this awards program accepts entrants from 14 categories including architecture and construction, as well as transport, local government, fashion, food and wellbeing within Australia and New Zealand.

The Circle Awards will be judged by a panel of industry leaders including architect and City of Sydney councillor HY William Chan.

The awards’ founder Nick Hoskin said the inaugural 2021 program demonstrated that there are “plenty of businesses in this region leading in positive impact for people in the planet” as well as driving a commercially successful enterprise.

The 2021 winner of the architecture category was Pavilions Residences, a collaboration between Mirvac and the University of NSW SMaRT Centre. The project uses ceramic floor and wall tiles made from waste glass and textiles destined for land fill. In the Home Garden and Utilities category, a home-compostable cling wrap made by architect Julia Kay and her partner Jordy was awarded the winner.

The awards program also has four special accolade categories: Judge’s Choice; People’s Choice; One to Watch, awarded to the entry that best captures the imagination of the judges; and Shape Shifter, awarded to the individual making significant contributions to shaping a better future.

Entries close on 20 September and winners will be announced during a live event on Tuesday 18 October.
