The National Gallery of Victoria is now taking expressions of interests for participation in the next festival.
In its seventh year, Melbourne Design Week will run from Thursday 18 to Sunday 28 May 2023 and invites participants to respond to the theme “Design the world you want”, encouraging the industry to use creative thinking to address the issues facing society today.
The 2023 program will feature talks, tours, workshops and exhibitions across Melbourne and Victoria, guided by three thematic pillars: transparency, currency and legacy. Annual programs including Open House Melbourne and the 2022 NGV Architecture Commission have already been confirmed.
Melbourne Design Fair, a market for collectable design, will also return for its second year, presented in collaboration with Melbourne Art Foundation. It will take place on the first week of the festival and will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Minister for Creative Industries Steve Dimopoulos said the design week provides a stage for some of Victoria’s “most compelling talent” alongside international experts in Australia’s largest showcase of design excellence.
NGV director Tony Ellwood added that through this program, “we celebrate the design industry and welcome curious minds to explore creativity and innovation through a series of accessible talks, tours and exhibitions across Melbourne.”
Participation in Melbourne Design Week is free. Applications close 26 November.
