Architect and former national president of the Australian Institute of Architects Helen Lochhead has been appointed to the board of the National Capital Authority, where she will serve a five-year term.
Lochhead is currently a board member of the Australian Heritage Council, a non-executive director of the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat Australia, a commissioner of the NSW Independent Planning Commission, and an emeritus professor of architecture and urbanism at the University of New South Wales.
She is also chair of the Institute’s Climate Action and Sustainability Committee.
“Professor Lochhead brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in sustainable urban development and planning, including time served on the ACT Planning and Land Council and the Gungahlin Development Authority,” said Kristy McBain, federal minister of regional development, local government and territories.
“This expertise will complement the NCA’s role in developing and maintaining the character and vibrancy of our national capital, so that it can be enjoyed by future generations of Australians.”
The National Capital Authority manages the planning and development of Australia’s capital, Canberra, where the board meets six times a year.
