The Australian Institute of Architects has announced it has appointed a new national president-elect.
Jane Cassidy, the current ACT chapter president, will take up the role following the Institute’s annual general meeting on 31 May.
Cassidy is a director of GHD Woodhead, and the practice’s Asia-Pacific technical services leader for architecture and design.
She is also a board member of the Institute, a member of the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia’s standing panel for the accreditation of architecture schools, and a senior fellow of the higher education academy.
“We thank Ms Cassidy and the other candidates for their commitment to architecture and the Institute,” said Shannon Battisson, outgoing national president and chair of the Institute’s national council.
“As the peak body for professionals in the built environment, we rely on the dedication and efforts of our volunteer leaders to represent us. Year after year they achieve great outcomes for architects in Australia, and beyond.”
Cassidy said the development of net-zero strategies for urban and built environments would be a priority during her term.
“As architects, we need to transcend demonstration projects and deliver high-quality inclusive and sustainable built environments for all,” she said.
Cassidy will become national president in 2024, taking over the role from Stuart Tanner.
