The South Australian government has unveiled designs for a $74 million upgrade to Noarlunga Hospital in Adelaide’s southern suburbs.
The government first announced the redevelopment project in January 2023.
Wiltshire Swain Architects and GHD Woodhead were appointed by SA Health and Department for Infrastructure and Transport to design the upgrade in consultation with clinical teams and consumers.
The upgrade will increase the hospital’s capacity by more than 50 percent.
A 24-bed mental health rehabilitation facility will be located the lower floor, with two large therapy areas, two private lounges, two family lounges, four interview rooms, a gym and external courtyards.
“More acute care and mental health beds is welcome news for the community and will alleviate demand on Flinders Medical Centre and improve flow from emergency departments in both hospitals,” said South Australian health minister Chris Picton.
The upper floor will 24-bed in-patient medical unit. “The new beds will mean people will get their care closer to home rather than having to travel to Flinders Medical Centre,” said Kerrie Freeman, CEO of Southern Adelaide Local Health Network.
