$900 million precinct approved at former Sydney quarry

A $900 million BVN-designed, mixed-use precinct in Sydney’s Pyrmont has been approved for development by the City of Sydney.

The four-building hub, to be known as Fig and Wattle, will be sited at 14-26 Wattle Street – formerly the Saunders Quarry. It will accommodate 237 single and multi-bedroom apartments, a childcare facility, an indoor recreational centre with two sports courts, landscaped communal spaces and a commercial building.

BVN won a design excellence competition for the project. BVN principal Phillip Rossington said the site has a layered history, offering many directions for design inspiration. Sandstone details will be integrated throughout the hub to reference the site’s history as a former sandstone quarry.

“Our scheme embraces Pyrmont’s history and diverse character through evocative, contemporary architecture and urban design, activating an enticing work-meets-lifestyle hub with open spaces, recreation facilities and family-friendly amenities.”

The precinct will be within close proximity to Blackwattle Bay and the Sydney Fish Markets.

Constructon is anticipated to commence by the end of 2024.
