Living Cities Forum will return in September with another one-day conference themed “Common Interests”. In 2024 the conference will be held in both Melbourne and Sydney.
The theme focuses on public spaces and challenges keynote speakers to showcase progressive ideas and solutions for the future of cities.
Four international speakers have been announced. They include:
- Spanish landscape architect Martí Franch who pioneered low-cost, large-scale green infrastructures in Catalonia, transforming neglected urban areas into vibrant, multifunctional public spaces.
- US-based designer/artist, coder, and scholar Catherine d’Ignazio who combines feminism and technology to create more inclusive open spaces, both online and offline.
- US-based landscape architect and associate professor Jill Desimini who is exploring the design possibilities of vacant lots and residual spaces as sites of public amenity and climate justice, at a time when climate impacts on public space will be greater in poorer neighbourhoods.
- Kenyan researcher, architect, and co-founder of Nairobi-based Cave Bureau, Kabage Karanja who is developing design strategies for resisting and healing, restoring the rights and practices of indigenous communities and all living things.
Living Cities Forum 2024 will be held in Melbourne at The Edge, Federation Square on Wednesday 18 September and in Sydney at the State Library of New South Wales on Friday 20 September.
