Northshore Hamilton, the urban development area to the east of Brisbane’s CBD on the Brisbane River, will be home to the main Athletes’ Village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Queensland government, releasing early concept images of the village, said the precinct would undergo a “spectacular transformation” for the games.
“The Olympics will do for Northshore Hamilton what Expo 88 did for South Bank,” said deputy premier and state development minister Steven Miles.
“Village construction will crystalize the area’s long-term plan and rejuvenate the existing industrial land.
“It will boost an already popular precinct – home to landmarks such as Portside, Eat Street Markets, and Alcyone Hotel, and some of Brisbane’s best waterfront living.”
The village will host more than 10,000 athletes and team officials for the Olympic Games and more than 5,000 for the Paralympics.
The government said that Northshore’s waterfront location, proximity to the CBD, competition and training venues as well as transport connections, made it an ideal location for the games and afterwards. The plan is for the village to be used after the games as to deliver a mix of aged care, retirement living, social and affordable housing, as well as build-to-rent and market accommodation.
