Thirty-year plan to transform Melbourne’s Highpoint and surrounds

The owners of Highpoint Shopping Centre in Melbourne’s west have released a development plan for the transformation of the shopping centre and surrounding precinct over the next 30 years.

Prepared by Urbis for the GPT Group, the Highpoint Urban Village plan seeks approval for a mixture of residential and commercial uses, community facilities, green open spaces and provision for additional retail.

Key components of the proposal include 3,200 new dwellings, approximately 149,000 square metres of commercial office space and open space including a new town plaza. The height of the buildings would range from three to 14 storeys.

“This proposal will transform Highpoint Shopping Centre (HSC) into an exciting, mixed use precinct that addresses a need for well serviced and connected housing, community service and diverse employment opportunities within the City of Maribyrnong,” states Urbis’s report.

GPT is seeking feedback from the public on its proposal as it prepares a final version to submit to council.
