Woods Bagot has designed an intriguing ellipsoid pergola to sit atop a proposed 18-storey building in Brisbane’s South City Square.
The design comes as a response to market feedback from an original proposal by developers, with changes predominantly relating to improved functionality and occupancy in the building, as well as the provision of greater open communal spaces.
The rooftop “nest” in the updated design will provide amenity for hotel guests, including a pool, bar deck and communal seating areas.
The organic crown shape is designed to cantilever over the building’s edges to create a striking geometry against the Brisbane skyline. It will also be poised to capitalize on solar access and the panoramic views of the CBD.
The developer has revised plans for the tower to respond to feedback for greater communal amenity.

The proposed building on the corner of Logan Road and Deshon Street will be a multi-storey mixed-use building with retail and commercial spaces, and a Hyatt Place hotel will operate from levels 11 to 18.
Building on the South City Square precinct began in 2016 and once completed, it will accommodate more than 800 units, a supermarket, gymnasium, day care centre, cinema complex, and a range of other amenities across seven buildings. The design team for the precinct includes Woods Bagot, DBI, Six Degrees and Oculus.
The tower is the second last building of the South City Square development, with completion of the square anticipated for 2023.
