With tones of mint, grey, cochineal red and deep green, these four homes have impressed the judges of the 2023 Dulux Colour Awards.
In the Single Residential Interior category, Alma Road Residence by Studiofour came out on top with its “theatrical yet calm, moody interior [that] exudes timeless old-world sophistication,” said judge Lisa Lee, senior interior designer of Snøhetta.
“The play of grey and white, matte and gloss, is deceptively complex,” she continued. “What appears to be a highly wrought design execution nevertheless allows its function as a family home to remain evident and the warmth that pervades this project is ultimately seductive.”

A commendation was awarded to Studio Elroy by Lintel Studio for Architecture. This tiny 19-square-metre apartment in the basement of a heritage building was praised as “an exemplar of inspired small-scale living, with colour at the heart of the concept and result,” Lee said.
Mount Mac by Williams Burton Leopardi also received a commendation for its “sophisticated, hotel-like sleekness, created by the deep dramatic colour scheme of the kitchen and living zones.”
In the Single Residential Exterior category, a backyard shed in New Zealand was named the winner for demonstrating “the way a subtle incorporation of colour, applied with constraint, can have a powerful effect,” said judge Sarah Carney, project director of Ctrl Space.
Nightlight by Fabric was also lauded for the way “it sits so comfortably with the structural timbers and myriad greens of the surrounding bush. The result is calm and sincere, striking an organic balance between form and function.”
