East Sydney office building design to reflect local identity

A striking 11-storey office building has been approved for Mascot near Sydney Airport, traditionally an industrial area that has recently seen an influx of mixed-use commercial developments.

Designed by Scott Carver, the $81 million building at 32 Ricketty Street will be around 300 metres from the mixed-use residential Mascot Central precinct and 500 metres from the Mascot railway station.

The dual-fronted, north-facing development will have views to the Sydney CBD skyline. Scott Carver said it was designed to reflect the identity of its place, with the brickwork façade echoing the vernacular of historic factories and warehouses. “The building will celebrate the local history and character of Mascot’s industrial heritage while bringing a tactility and human scale to the development,” planning documents read.

“[The] layered façade treatment creates visual interest, depth, and strength, whilst curved corners soften the form to create a dynamic, slender building.”

The building will house six levels of commercial office spaces above the levels of car parking. The rooftop level will include a covered terrace space, green roof with solar PV cells and a basketball half court.

At ground level a double-height lobby will open to a cafe with outdoor seating facing Ricketty Street. A gymnasium, bike store with end of trip facility will also be included.

The development application was approved by Sydney Eastern City Planning Panel.
