Proposed hospital to be ‘epicentre for surgical research and innovation’

Mode and HSPC Health Architects have prepared designs for a eight-storey private hospital at Mundoo Boulevard, Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast, with plans submitted to the Queensland government.

The $100 million development will include surgical facilities as well as allied medical and teaching facilities. Developer Barwon Investment Partners said that the University of the Sunshine Coast and orthopaedic technology specialist Medacta will be anchor tenants for the hospital.

Tom Patrick, head of healthcare property at Barwon, said the facility would be an “epicentre for surgical research and innovation”.

The private hospital proposed for Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast designed by Mode and HSPC Health Architects.

USC vice-chancellor Professor Helen Bartlett told media, “Our teaching and research activities at the centre will tie in with our degrees in medical science, occupational therapy, health science and our other allied health programs.”

In terms of its design, planning documents describe a contemporary building that emphasises ground-level activation. “The proposed development presents a high-quality architectural design that comprises a mix of external finishes, built form articulation and finer grain detailing,” the town planning report reads. “Finally, landscape areas will be provided throughout the development to enhance the visual interest of the site and built form and contribute to the softening of the building when viewed from the public realm.”

The development application is before Economic Development Queensland, and has been placed on public exhibition.
