Development WA has approved Edith Cowan University’s Perth CBD campus, designed by Lyons, Silver Thomas Hanley, and Haworth Tompkins.
The university will now move to finalize the schematic designs and secure a main contractor for the project.
ECU vice chancellor Steve Chapman said, “ECU City will definitively reshape the Perth CBD. It will be unlike any other university in Australia.
“We look forward to the construction phase of this project and the creation of one of the most dynamic, innovative and technologically advanced university campuses in the southern hemisphere.”
The campus will comprise an 11-storey building with stacked performance spaces, studios and digital labs. It will bring together creative industries, business and technology, along with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA).
“The campus will create new vibrancy in the Perth CBD and generate new opportunities and benefits for local businesses,” said Chapman.
Early site works on the multi-million-dollar project are scheduled to commence in quarter two of 2022.
