Entries open for 2023 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work

Entries are open for the 2023 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work which recognize compelling works in its conceptual stages that exhibits the qualities of experimentation, speculation and invention.

Entries may be for works of any scale or typology, and may exist as proposals that are intended to be built or merely theoretical explorations on paper.

The 2022 AA Prize for Unbuilt Work went to two recipients: “Native Networks”, an urban proposal to establish an uninterrupted network of green spaces across Sydney by Layla Stanley, and “Gas Stack”, a small waste-to-energy pavilion idea by Simulaa with Finding Infinity. The jury commented these works sought to confront environmental challenges and promote creative urban transformations on different scales.

The jury for the 2023 Unbuilt Work prize will comprise Amy Muir (of Muir); Helen Lochhead (professor of architecture and urbanism at UNSW); Kevin O’Brien (principal of BVN); Philip Thalis (principal of Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Projects); and Katelin Butler (editorial director of Architecture Media).

The AA Prize for Unbuilt Work is presented by Architecture Australia magazine and organized by Architecture Media (publisher of ArchitectureAU)

Entries close on Friday 26 August, at which date projects must be unbuilt. The winner will receive a cash prize of $5,000.
