Melbourne Design Week returns in 2022 with an 11-day program exhibitions, talks, films, tours and workshops across the city and parts of regional Victoria.
The 2022 theme “Design the world you want” is divided into two pillars – civic good and making good – encouraging participants to think beyond the individual and as well as explore the social and environmental impact of design.
Highlights of the program include the perennial Melbourne Art Book Fair, the NGV Architecture Commission Ponder by Taylor Knights with James Carey; the 2021 MPavilion by Map Studio; the biennial Australian Furniture Design Awards and an exhibition of the 25 years of the Victorian Premier’s Design Awards.
For the first time, the retail sector of Victoria’s design community will be participating with a range of presentations including an charity auction of reinventions of an iconic chair at Cult, a panel discussion at Living Edge and an outdoor cinema at Dedece.
Various designers will also be presenting in group shows around the city including Self Portrait curated by Dale Hardiman and Tom Skeehan’s Friends and Associates at RMIT Design Hub and an exhibition of contemporary jewellery by Victoria’s First Nations designers presented by the Koori Heritage Trust.
“Melbourne Design Week showcases the Victorian design sector to the world, highlighting the rich and diverse talent that populates our local industries,” said Victorian creative industries minister Danny Pearson. “Design can help shape our cities, our regions, our lives – and this program reveals how Australian design is helping to create a more sustainable world both at home and abroad.”
The full program is on the Melbourne Design Week website.
