Sydney's newest architectural gems on show for design week

Powerhouse Museum has announced the program for Sydney Design Week 2022: a seven-day program of exhibitions, talks, films and workshops held across the city’s design hubs from 15 until 22 September.

Curated by Stephen Todd, the 2022 program themed “Making Now” celebrates designers who are “defining the cultural moment in Sydney and around the world.” The theme examines the role of design across a range of disciplines, expanding the parameters of “design” to explore its myriad expressions.

In the mix of projects and exhibitions will be a suite of architectural and design showcases, conversations and walking tours, with the most cutting-edge recent projects and leading change-makers in Sydney.

Partnering with the recently opened Ace Hotel, designed by Flack Studio, Sydney Design Week will present a series of talks and workshops, with the likes of Other Architects director Grace Mortlock, Powerhouse and First Nations director Emily McDaniel, designer Fiona Lynch, and more.

A walking tour, “Making Western Sydney”, will take place examining the major new buildings around Parramatta, with principals from practices including Fender Katsalidis, Hill Thalis Architecture and Urban Design, Blight Rayner, JPW and Tzannes, followed by an afternoon of public talks and a live-streamed presentation on the new flagship Powerhouse Parramatta.

There will be a combined open house event with Smart Design Studio’s William Smart and Design By Them directors inviting the public into their studios to present an exhibition of new works.
