Brisbane Open House returns in July 2023

Brisbane Open House returns in 2023 with a curated selection of iconic and contemporary buildings open to the public.

Taking place on 15 and 16 July, the program spans 80 buildings and places across 11 Brisbane precincts, particularly this year’s Iconic Precinct: Herston Health and Heritage.

The area’s buildings represent more than 120 years of architecture; highlights include Lady Lamington Nurses’ Home and Towers (the first significant work of seminal Queensland architect Robin Dods) and the Hassell-designed Surgical Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS).

“After the success of the Fish Lane Arts Precinct in 2022 and the rich connections we created within that community, it really was an obvious choice to continue this in 2023. Herston Health and Heritage brings a great depth to the program this year,” said Brisbane Open House chair Malcolm Middleton.

Executive director Melissa Hoedel added, “We are delighted to provide a robust and diverse selection for our 2023 BOH program this year.

“The inclusion of some truly remarkable projects, old favourites and interesting buildings, spaces, structures and places will provide our passionate audience with so many options. I am personally delighted to see private homes back in our program, and I look forward to our program also being activated by music and art.”

Some of the residential highlights include a sustainable and flood-resilient home in Ashgrove designed by Contexture Architects, and a 100-year-old timber church that was transported 200 kilometres and converted into sustainable new home by PTMA Architecture.
