New hosts and new direction for latest Grand Designs instalment

The ABC has announced it will be the home of a new Grand Designs television series to be released in 2024, featuring two new hosts and a fresh direction.

Grand Designs Transformations will concentrate on renovations rather than new builds, unlike its Foxtel predecessor Grand Designs Australia, which wrapped up in early 2023 after 11 seasons. Architect and host of Grand Designs Australia Peter Maddison will not be taking on hosting duties for the new series. Instead, the University of Technology Sydney professor of architecture and Restoration Australia host, Anthony Burke, and interior designer Yasmine Ghoniem, of multidisciplinary design practice YSG, have been selected to host the show.

“Things are moving so fast in design and architecture at the moment. It is fantastic to see the way issues like sustainability, multi-generational living, tiny homes, recycled homes and more are being explored by Australian homeowners, stepping outside the expected and into the provocative at all scales of building. People are rolling up their sleeves and transforming our ideas of living in Australia, one project at a time,” said Anthony Burke.

“I was blown away witnessing extraordinary achievements by ordinary people. There’s nothing better than seeing others understand the benefits of good design, listen to their gut and go for it. Watching this series, young homeowners especially are going to be inspired to take risks and give it a red hot go when it comes to realising their own renovation dreams,” said Yasmine Ghoniem.

Each episode will feature two home makeovers as the two hosts following the trials and tributations of transforming a house into a domestic dream.

Grand Designs Transformations was annonced as part of the ABC’s 2024 program lineup.
